Schedule

Due to innovative funding solutions, such as strategies made available through HB 3588, the construction schedule for SH 161 can be accelerated.

Without tolling, the SH 161 mainlanes are scheduled to begin construction in sections from 2009 through 2014. Construction would not likely be complete for all sections until 2016.  In addition, other projects in the corridor go unfunded.

With tolling, the construction of the SH 161 mainlanes could begin much earlier and all sections could be opened to traffic by 2010.  In additon, the the funding would be used to support near neighbor projects in the area such as:

  • Interchanges for Loop 12 at SH 114 and Loop 12 at SH 183
  • Hunter-Ferrell Road: From Beltline to MacArthur
  • MacArthur/Gifford: S of IH 30
  • The Park&Ride Lot @ IH30/MacArthur-IH 30 Frontage Roads: From SH 161 to MacArthur
  • IH 20 Frontage Roads: From SH 161 to FM 1382
  • Lake Ridge Parkway: From IH 20 To Great SW Pkwy
  • Camp Wisdom: From Carrier Pkwy to FM 1382

By leveraging the $400 million capital investment in the 161 corridor, it’s possible to develop a total program of over $800 million worth of needed construction.
