The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) proposes improvements to Interstate Highway 35 East (I-35E) and U.S. Highway 67 (US 67) within the cities of Dallas, Cedar Hill, De Soto, Duncanville, and Lancaster in Dallas County, Texas. The proposed project is approximately 23 miles long. The proposed improvements collectively referred to as “The Southern Gateway Managed Lanes Project,” consist of managed lane implementation throughout the entire project limits and full reconstruction of the section of I-35E between the I-35E/US 67 split and Colorado Blvd. For additional Southern Gateway Managed Lanes Project information, visit www.thesoutherngateway.org.

The purpose of the proposed project is to improve mobility, traffic operations, address roadway deficiencies, and improve safety. The proposed project would also address the HOV/Managed Lane system throughout the corridor allowing single occupancy vehicles (SOV) users as well as high occupancy vehicles (HOV) two plus users to access the facility.

The proposed project would consist of full reconstruction of the section of I-35E between the I-35E/US 67 split and Colorado Blvd., conversion of existing HOV lanes to tolled managed lanes, and addition of tolled managed lanes. Within the Dallas Horseshoe Project limits, two reversible HOV/managed lanes are proposed along I-35E from Reunion Blvd. to Colorado Blvd. to provide HOV continuity with the Southern Gateway Managed Lanes Project. Improvements along I-35E from I-20 to the I-35E/US 67 split consist of implementing a one lane reversible tolled managed lane in the existing center median. Similarly along US 67 from I-20 to the I-35E/US 67 split, the general improvements consist of partial reconstruction to change the existing concurrent HOV lane to two reversible tolled managed lanes, and the addition of one reversible tolled managed lane between FM 1382 to I-20 in the center median. Additional operational improvements such as ramp relocations and intersection improvements are under evaluation south of the I-35E/US 67 split. Approximately 11.76 acres of additional ROW and 0.7 acres of temporary easements would be required.
