FM 1171 from IH 35W to W of FM 156 - Public Meeting

Denton County, in conjunction with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), as the joint lead agency, are proposing to extend FM 1171 from IH 35W to west of FM 156 in Denton County, Texas. This notice advises the public that TxDOT will be conducting a public meeting on the proposed project. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Northwest ISD Outdoor Learning Center Great Hall, 7773 Mulkey Lane, Northlake, Texas 76247. The meeting will be held in an open house format from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to present the planned improvements and to receive public comment on the proposed project.
The proposed project would extend Cross Timbers Road (FM 1171) on new location from IH 35W to west of FM 156 through the Town of Northlake and City of Justin, Denton County, Texas. The project would connect at Cross Timbers Road (FM 1171) at the Southbound IH 35W Frontage Road. At this time, two alternative alignments are currently under consideration. Each alternative alignment measures approximately 3.5-miles in length and each would require approximately 90 acres of new right-of-way. The proposed right-of-way width is typically 200 feet. The proposed roadway would consist of a six-lane divided roadway compromised of urban and rural sections. Bicycle and pedestrian accommodations would be included as part of the proposed project. The design speed for the proposed roadway is 40 miles per hour. The purpose of the proposed project is to provide a facility that would accommodate expanding transportation demands resulting from population growth and economic development in the region; increase mobility and accessibility in the region; and to provide an east-west transportation facility to serve the communities in the project area.
